A kitchen fire Sunday has quickly closed the preferred longtime Turlock diner Latif’s by Pedretti.

“Everyone is protected and we hope to get up and working as quickly as bodily feasible,” reads a post on its Facebook web page, in which it thanks the Turlock, Ceres, Denair, Keyes and Modesto fireplace crews that responded. It also thanks Turlock law enforcement.

The report of the fireplace at the 111 N. Golden Point out Blvd. eatery was made about 4:40 p.m. The initial crews to arrive discovered smoke coming from the roof air flow, Turlock Fire Department spokesman Capt. Kevin Tidwell said Monday early morning.

“When crews designed entry, they encountered gentle smoke,” he mentioned by textual content. “It was a little fireplace that was held in check out by the hood suppression system above the prepare dinner prime. Crews were able to put the relaxation of the fireplace out with drinking water cans.”

Problems was contained to the kitchen area area, Tidwell mentioned. Firefighters were being on scene about a few several hours.

Opened by founder and namesake Charles Latif in 1953, Latif’s has served Turlock for almost 7 many years. It is been in its existing building, hanging for its untouched midcentury design and style, in 1960.

Just after far more than 60 years of family ownership, Latif’s was purchased by Nick Pedretti in November 2019. In a Bee article then, Pedretti explained he was intent on preserving both the spot’s classic glance and everyone-knows-your-name truly feel.

The cafe recognised for its do-it-yourself pies and retro decor is as much a Turlock institution as the practice tracks that bisect the heart of the city.

A gofundme account titled “Supporting Latif’s Employees” was established up late Sunday. “To our Latif’s loving neighborhood, it’s been a very rough 12 months and now Latif’s has been hit with one more set back,” the create-up on the web page suggests of the hearth. “… Even though insurance coverage receives worked out and the kitchen area gets rebuilt, we have the staff to glimpse out for. If you’ve ever been to Latif’s, you know that the employees treats you like spouse and children, and if you go generally, they become household.”

We will update this tale as far more information on the fireplace is out there.
