Westmoreland adults with disabilities decorate flower pots for nursing home mothers

Laughter, hugs and dazzling bouquets filled a pavilion at Twin Lakes Park.

Westmoreland County group members with disabilities gathered Thursday night to adorn flower pots for mothers at Twin Lakes Rehabilitation and Health care Middle in honor of Mother’s Working day.

The occasion was hosted by Crew Mates, a team that produces possibilities and community for grown ups with disabilities in the Pittsburgh location.

Individuals enjoyed meal and desserts in advance of decorating the flower pots with colourful stickers, tape and shoe polish. They then potted purple, orange and yellow bouquets.

Each month, Group Friends retains an occasion that aims to make social, learning and philanthropic options for contributors, Crew Pals guide facilitator Jamie Walker reported. About 50 men and women attended Thursday’s occasion.

The Might function ideally will provide joy and really like to nursing house people, she explained.

“We figured there could possibly be some moms who don’t have individuals visiting, or even some fellas who need some brightening up,” Walker explained.

Richard Long, a participant from Somerset Township, stated he likes “everything” about Workforce Pals, primarily the friendships he has fashioned.

He looked forward to generating an impact at the nursing residence.

“My preferred component of (this function) is decorating the flower pots for persons in the nursing properties,” Long stated. “I can give them to the individuals and make them feel beloved.”

Walker stated Group Friends “changes lives.” The Westmoreland chapter of the Pittsburgh-dependent group started about five several years ago.
